French Bulldogs require a minimal amount of exercise. If
you want a companion running dog, a French bulldog is
probably not the dog for you. French Bulldogs can handle
short brisk walks and short sprints, but they cannot endure
long, fast-paced runs. We let our Frenchies run and play
for 20-30 minutes play sessions 2-3 times a day usually
after meals in our yard. We take advantage of our dogs’
time outside to allow them to exercise and potty at the
same time. Our frenchies usually lounge around the house
while interacting and playing with each other.
French bulldogs can definitely get over excited and
overheat. Make sure that you pay attention to the signs of
fatigue such as heavy panting and slowing their pace on a
walk. If you are walking your Frenchies make sure to bring
water, they have to keep hydrated in order to keep from
overheating. When we take long hikes and walks with our
Frenchies, we always bring a backpack carrier, just in case
they cannot make the entire trek. French Bulldogs are not
built for long extensive journeys; they are more suited for
lounging around the house and playing around for
attention.
